"green " makeup - Mineral makeup
PrairieMom wrote: I am looking for a change, but it seems like a lot of the make up out there is so expensive, and I am SUPER cheap.
So, any suggestions on what is good?
I was looking at that Bare Escentuals, but I am a little scared to buy it online, and I hear its hard to work with.
There are a few different kinds of mineral makeup out there, is there a difference between them?
coasterqueen replied: I use BE but it is expensive. I've found that our local spa carries it so I can go in and buy it w/o paying shipping.
I've heard from those I know IRL that used BE, that Revlon's line of minerals are just as great.
I am terrible with make-up and I think BE is easy to use. When my BE's run out I plan to try Revlon's line.
Is revlons line organic?
cameragirl21 replied: I rarely use foundation but when I do, I prefer the Bare Minerals as it looks barely there and if I have any breakout, just one use significantly reduces it in the days thereafter.
You don't have to buy it online, I got mine at Sephora and while it's not super expensive, it's not for the very cheap, either.
PrairieMom replied: does BE really work well at concealing blemishes? and will it last me all day?
I also heard that the brushes aren't very good, that they are hard and they shed.
I was thinking about getting the introductory offer for $60 and seeing how I like it, it comes with the video and all that.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I can't speak for the high priced mineral stuff~I like living debt free so I can't pony up that much cash for make up. I bought some Maybelline Mineral Power because it was buy 1 get 1 and I had a $2 off coupon. I should preface my review by stating that I have always needed foundation because I have very uneven skin tone but I have fairly oily/combination skin so I need a powder as well. I was hoping mineral makeup would get me away from always using this combo. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide the coverage I need~at least in the winter. I'll try it again in the summer after I get a tan because my skin appears more even in tone then. I loved the feel of it. It blended extremely well to my skin~also a big bonus. It's the only kind/time I've tried so not much help but it's my
I don't have a sephora. I DO have to buy it online, unless they carry it at walmart or target. You forget, I'm way out here on the prairie.
cameragirl21 replied: I saw some kit from Bare Essentuals at Target the other day but I didn't look too closely at what it is because I am not on the market for more makeup now. But you may want to check there. I love BE, love love love it. For a while I wore it everyday but I grew bored of that extra step each day. Remember, I don't use foundation much but if I do get blemishes, one use of BE and they're gone as if they were never there in a couple days.
I am very happy with it, maybe I should start wearing it more....
I looked on their website under where I can buy it, and the closest place listed is the mall of America, 4 hours away.
Thank goodness for online shopping and shipping.
You know what, I don't know that but my assumption is NO. I didn't even think of that. Bummer.
Well I put it on at 6:30 am and it still looks pretty good at 5:30 pm when I get home.
My brushes get a bit mesed up - the one I use for mineral veil and blush. You can buy the brushes seperately, too.
BTW, you CAN get the "trial" pack at Target.
I also think it does a pretty darn good job at covering up blemishes, at least mine.
I CAN? Perhaps I will check that out. It isn't listed on their website, the next time I need diapers i will totally look.
Sorry, misuse of caps. I was just saying they do have BE at Target.
you are fine. Actually, I think I use caps to accentuate my words more than anyone around here. But a actually talk like that too.
luvmykids replied: I personally have not found a single mineral make up I like, and I've tried almost all of them from BE to Revlon, L'Oreal, etc....I always feel like my pores, fine lines, etc are greatly accentuated and for me there is zero coverage
Go to makeupalley.com and look at reviews for them all, it might direct you to an organic or natural one.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: They don't have the BE at our Target.
But, you can get the starter pack cheaper thru QVC.
mckayleesmom replied: Bare Essentials just started being sold at our Target here...maybe give it a couple weeks and look. They come in box sets...usually around 50 dollars.
Here is the thing. I love the product, but I still feel like I need foundation if Im going somewhere fancy or out somewhere nice. Otherwise I just use the basics for everyday use.
I love the brushes and the system is really easy and the stuff lasts a long time. You just need a little bit. I don't think it takes long at all. I just pour a little in the cap...smoosh my brush in it and tap it and repeat till it picks it all up.
The only product I didn't like...was the warmth...I don't have any, but my MIL let me try hers and it made me look orange....I think I just need a different color. For now I will just stick with regular blush.
So, I have bad skin, like really bad, like, its bad, and I NEED foundation, I won't even go grocery shopping with out it. For me, slumming it is going with out blush and eye shadow, I NEED foundation every day. So, will BE be enough for me? I was hoping that it would help my skin heal and get better.
Well....my sil has really really bad acne...She tried every kind of makeup and as soon as she started using BE...her face cleared up.
Im saying that if I was going somewhere fancy to dinner or something...then I would use added converage, but I don't have acne.
Heres what I think you should try. Since you say you are not comfortable going without makup anywhere....Try it when you plan to stay home for a couple days and see if you see any improvement.
I was like you and never use to leave the house without makeup....but now Im comfortable just wearing BE....I get blemish's, but I don't have acne...I say give it a try and see if you see improvement in your skin..
luvmykids replied: Tara-I have BAD skin too which is one reason why I think I've never been able to like the mineral make ups....the people I know who use it and say the coverage is good enough are the people who don't need coverage to begin with I know people who say their skin cleared up, but it's not necessarily true for everyone....my acne has nothing to do with what make up I wear, or even if I don't wear any at all for long periods (which I've done in a desperate attempt to get rid of it once and for all ) so the BE didn't help me at all in that regard.
I'm not trying to talk you out of it, I just know how disappointed I've been all of the three different times I ordered it thinking it would work for me one of these days
But I think just about anywhere you order it from will take it back if you don't like it, so it's risk free to try.
DOH! hopes dashed!!!
I think I will still try it, I canceled my Proactive, so I have a little spare cash.
luvmykids replied: Seriously, go to the makeupalley site and look at reviews, there are TONS on the BE by people who have tried it, someone may say something that changes your mind...and you may find something else to try instead.
FWIW, I've been doing an aspirin and honey mask (I cancelled my Proactive too ) and am loving the results
What is the aspirin and honey mask? and Is it working? proactive was pretty good for me for a while, but it quit working after a year.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I use BE and I LOVE it! Try QVC they usually have great intro packages or excellent color deals and you can't beat their return policy!
luvmykids replied: The Proactive quit for me too...they have an extra strength formula but I didn't want to dry my skin anymore than I already have
There are a ton of ways to do the mask (which I found, of course, on makeupalley ) but I use the cheap, uncoated aspirin (the 81mg "for your heart" stuff)....I just take about four or five in the palm of my hand, just a FEW drops of water to make it pasty, and enough honey to make it sticky. Spread it all over and leave it, sometimes for 10 minutes, sometimes 30, then I wet my hands again and use it like a scrub, and rinse. I'm using witch hazel for toner and just the plain cetaphil moisturizer.
The aspirin is supposed to be a good exfoliator even without scrubbing and an anti-inflammatory, and the honey is a detoxifier and has some anti-bacterial properties, and also leaves your face super smooth.
Some people use extra virgin olive oil in it too but I've been too scared. Sometimes I add a little milk too, for the lactic acid. I can't say it's dramatic like the Proactive was at first, but over the course of the last two months it's slowly but surely clearing up and my skin looks and feels a lot healthier in general.
Sorry I'm jumping in here. I'm totally going to try this asprin and honey thing Monica! I have been breaking out again like crazy lately and I'm so frustrated. I don't even have the money to try the proactive knock offs, and I don't wear make-up so I know it's not that. I've even been wishing I could just get pregnant again because my skin is so clear when I'm pg!
luvmykids replied: I love how CHEAP it is I think I bought a bigger bottle of honey last time so it was $3 something, and I got the aspirin at the dollar store. I almost think it's one of those things where the cheaper the stuff you get, the better it works
Yeah that's what sounds so appealing about it to me. We always have honey on hand because Andrew likes it on his Cheerios, (and we both like it on our peanut butter sandwiches and pb toast ) but we don't have any aspirin so I'll have to go buy some. Hopefully the weather will be clear tomorrow and I can walk to the store with the kids and get some.
